ABOUT US

The Sea Star Spirit House is located in Gold Beach Oregon, a small coastal town about 35 miles north of the California border on  Highway 101.  Gold Beach is home to the wild and scenic Rogue River, jet boat trips, gorgeous sandy beach access and some of the best fishing in the state. When you are here you may fish for salmon in the famous Rogue River, beach comb for agates, sand dollars and driftwood treasures or just walk along the Pacific enjoying the beautiful scenery. We offer a full bar, Oregon Lottery gaming, pool tables, dart boards, lending and game library, and share the building with Behind The Red Door, Eatery.

Behind The Red Door, Eatery

When local chef, Kevin Buffington, lost his lease and was forced to close his previous restaurant, Mangia Buff, many folks were disappointed, however, Kevin is nothing if not resilient. On December 2, 2016, he opened in a new location–on the north side of the Sea Star–and under a new name, Behind The Red Door.

A sign of welcome and worth, a Red Door was thought to signify the safety of a house along the Underground Railroad, a route for slaves escaping captivity and traveling north during the 19th century.

In Scotland, a Red Door signifies the status of holding a fully paid mortgage.

Some Protestant and most Lutheran churches painted church doors Red to identify them as part of the Reformation.

Albert Einstein painted his door Red so he could more easily find his house.
